The debate rages on which is better to hunt with a recurve bow or a compound bow? It seems that it comes down to your personal choice and the way you think about hunting. Are you a purist or a 21st century modernist?
Should I hunt with a recurve or compound bow?
The recurve bow is preferred by some hunters because it maintains the traditional way of hunting. This way of thinking originates in the fact that ancient peoples hunted with the recurve bow which they made by hand out of natural products. Also the recurve bow string can be easily replaced by the owner. Disadvantages of the recurve bow are it doesn’t have the draw weight power the compound does. The recurve bow will only stay drawn as long as the hunter has the strength to pull the bow string back. It’s made of wood a heavier material causing the bow to be more cumbersome to carry.
The compound bow is lighter to carry because of its structural composition of aluminum, magnesium alloy or carbon. It also comes with draw-stops or rubber blocks that allow the hunter to adjust his ideal draw length which makes for an accurate shoot consistently. The compound bow has its weak points as well. While the hunter releases the arrow any change in his form will cause the arrow to veer to the right or left. On the compound bow it’s virtually impossible for the owner to change the bow string. The owner would have to buy a specialized “bow press” to put the new string on. This is an added expense.

The best compound bow is the Bear over the Sage it’s priced much higher but and there seemed to be no issues with the assembly. Among the recurve bows the Samick won hands down over the PSE with its superior structural design and you get more in their package than PSE’s and for less money.
